MPS Foundation honors outstanding alumni

More than 300 people gathered on October 10, 2018 to recognize outstanding alumni from Milwaukee Public Schools. Nine men and women plus a corporate partner were honored for their exemplary careers, community work, and support of Milwaukee Public Schools. Guests enjoyed a delicious dinner at the Italian Community Center and were treated to entertainment by R&B/jazz duo B~Free & Quinten Farr, as well as the Rufus King High School Drumline.
Washington High School recognizes exceptional alumni

The Washington High School Alumni Association proudly recognized seven men and women who are being added to the school’s Hall of Fame. All were selected for exemplary careers and service to the community. In a ceremony at Washington High School’s library, Interim Superintendent Keith Posley, Principal Angelena Terry, former Principal Jerome Brandl, and President Steven Brown of the WHS Alumni Scholarship Foundation congratulated and thanked the Hall of Fame members for their inspiring careers and their impact on the city of Milwaukee.
Dollars for Scholars Restaurant Week

The Milwaukee Public Schools Department of Strategic Partnerships and Customer Service (SPCS) builds the capacity of our families and our schools through partnerships. The department presents “Dollars for Scholars Restaurant Week” the week of October 8-12. Select restaurants have agreed to help us raise scholarship dollars for The SPCS Alumni Scholarship, but we need your help! During this week, eat at one of the following restaurants, present a flyer (below), or mention MPS, and the restaurant will donate a percentage of your meal back to the Alumni Scholarship fund!
Alumni Host a School Supply Drive

The 2018-19 school year has officially begun and our high school students are back to the books. On Friday, August 17, we gathered and alumni-owned Skybox for a school supply drive! Alumni from Bay View, Custer (Obama), Hamilton, Juneau (MacDowell), Marshall, North Division, Riverside, Rufus King, Tech, and Washington came together and donated essentials for high school students to succeed such as protractors, notebooks, highlighters, and calculators; we were able to fill two bins with various supplies.

The 2018–19 school year has officially begun! Students in MPS high schools, middle schools, and select elementary schools were back in the classroom today. Interim Superintendent Dr. Keith P. Vincent students exhibit animals at the Wisconsin State Fair

Most people aren’t surprised to hear that MPS students attend the Wisconsin State Fair—but the fact that students are competing in the youth livestock show gets some attention. This year, students showed seven sheep and one heifer at the fair, marking the second year that Vincent High School has taken part in competition. Vincent High School of Agricultural Sciences is the only school in Milwaukee County to offer an agriculture program, and allows students to work with sheep, cattle, a horse, and chickens.

Do you have a talent for planning events? Consider joining the Alumni Events Council where you will play a critical role in helping plan engagement events and acitivities that all alumni will enjoy! Council meetings will begin sometime in September and will meet monthly and everyone is welcome to participate. Meetings will take place at Central Office (unless otherwise indicated) and will require no more than two hours of your time.
