Enroll in kindergarten or Head Start now – seats are open!

Head Start KidsSchool starts September 4! Enroll your child now in Head Start or kindergarten. All MPS students receive free breakfast and lunch. A special District Enrollment Session will be held Saturday, September 1 from 8 a.m to 12 noon at MPS Central Services.

Head Start

Free preschool is available through the federal Head Start program for families who meet income limits. Head Start prepares children for school and teaches important early skills. Transportation is available.

The Head Start office can assist with applications, which must be made in person with required documents. Visit the Lee Learning Center at 921 W. Meinecke Ave., call 414-252-0350, or visit the District Enrollment Center (see below).



Kindergarten is available across the city. Call an MPS school or the District Enrollment Center for information and to find out about transportation options. Wisconsin law requires children to complete five-year-old kindergarten before entering first grade.

3-year-old Kindergarten: Limited programs are available at some schools. Children must turn 3 by September 1 to be eligible.
4-year-old Kindergarten: Programs are available at most schools across the district. Children must turn 4 by September 1 to be eligible.
5-year-old Kindergarten: Programs are available at most schools across the district.
Children must turn 5 by September 1 to be eligible.

Enrollment Help

  • Visit the MPS district website and enroll online at
  • Enroll in person at any MPS school.
  • Visit the District Enrollment Center at MPS Central Services, which is open Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
  • SPECIAL DISTRICT ENROLLMENT CENTER HOURS: Saturday, September 1 from 8 a.m. to 12 noon.
