Mentors keep seniors on track for graduation and beyond

Day of Hope MentoringThanks to dozens of mentors, about 200 MPS high school seniors received a needed boost on November 13 to think about their needs, their strengths, and their futures at the MPS Day of Hope event. School counselors led activities so students could develop a graduation plan and draft a two-year roadmap beyond graduation. ManpowerGroup served as host for the all-day event.

In small groups, seniors spent time thinking about their accomplishments so far and circumstances that might stand in the way of graduation. Then, mentors helped identify supports and solutions to help students keep moving toward their goal of graduation. Inspiring speakers helped set the tone for the day and build enthusiasm and confidence in students.

Equally as important as reaching graduation, facets of the program led students to develop a two-year plan beyond commencement. Seniors considered appealing career avenues and sketched out plans to acquire the training or education needed to reach their goals. Attendees also learned about supports offered in MPS College & Career Centers, located in all traditional MPS high schools, where staffers assist with college applications, financial aid, and more.

The day was marked by positive attitudes, feelings of accomplishment, and a sense of direction. Congratulations to all who participated!
