MPS school leaders completed a 3-day training to accelerate learning this school year with the Ambitious Instruction model. This approach incorporates culturally-responsive practices and instructional technology to bolster teaching. “We are excited to engage and connect with students of all abilities through explicit instruction and formative practices. These are data-based strategies that work to build knowledge and skills!” shared Jennifer Mims-Howell, Chief Academic Officer.
High school and middle school staff attended the professional development workshops. Author and keynote speaker Dr. Decoteau Irby opened the Institute with an interactive presentation on charismatic school leadership and racial equity. Superintendent Dr. Keith Posley shared his excitement. “We are eager to start the school year! I’m confident in our school principals and staff to deliver strong academic plans and to ensure student success.”
Milwaukee High School of the Arts is the site selected to officially kick-off the 2022-23 school year. Principal Larry Farris is ready. “Our school is updated and sanitized. Classrooms are refreshed with teachers revitalized after a nice summer break. The district has talented regional experts to support schools and offer accountability so our team feels motivated. I’m grateful for this well-planned professional development experience.”
