National Student Leadership Week is April 19–25

Student Leaders PhotoAcross the district, student leaders are making  a difference in their schools every day by setting high standards, leading by example, and taking charge of issues that are important to them. This week, we thank and congratulate MPS student leaders for their passion and commitment to excellence.

National Student Leadership Week, observed April 19 to 25, 2020, has taken place annually since 1972 and is promoted by National Honor Society, National Junior Honor Society, and National Student Council. The goal of this observance is to shine a spotlight on student leaders who improve their school culture and climate, and to encourage others to step up and take the lead in issues that are important to them.

In MPS, two student groups deserve to be singled out. The Superintendent’s Student Advisory Council is made up of representatives from MPS high schools and meets regularly with Superintendent Dr. Keith P. Posley to offer opinions, express concerns, and give advice for ways to improve their schools. Participants in the Student Leadership Summit attend several workshops each year and work with students in their own schools to gather support for issues such as equity, bullying, inclusion, and acceptance.

Student Leaders PhotoMPS appreciates all the student leaders who support their peers, promote positive change, build unity, and encourage achievement. You are the future leaders of tomorrow!

Thank you, student leaders!!
