Students may be learning from home, but the world is waiting to be explored through virtual field trips! Dozens of free tours and webcam experiences are available for students and families to enhance learning.
Online field trips can be selected just for fun based on a student’s interests, or may be chosen to connect with current topics of study. Virtual experiences can help bring learning to life and offer deeper understanding by engaging with expert narrators, viewing historic sites, or seeing how manufacturing takes place.
For the best experiences, families can watch field trips together and ask each other questions. Some questions might include:
- What did you notice about the location?
- What kinds of jobs are involved at the location?
- What types of skills are needed to work here (math, science, special training, physical strength, artistic skill, and so on)?
- What did you learn about this topic?
- What new questions do you have about this topic?
- Is this a place you would like to visit some day?
Field trips are easy to find by doing a Google search such as “field trips about space,” “virtual tours of art museums,” or “animal webcams.” A family member may want to view a few minutes of a field trip to be sure the presentation is appropriate for the student’s age.
